Get to Know Your Customer Day
Happy Get to Know Your Customer Day!
With all the noise on so many social media platforms, combined with hundreds of business start-ups every day, it seems like people aren’t giving much thought to who their customer is any more. Too many businesses are trying to be “all things to all people” and therefore not speaking clearly to or reaching anyone. This is not a viable business strategy. It’s exhausting, expensive, and unsustainable.
First, you decide who you specifically want to serve and with what unique skill set. Then begin to do just that. With each and every client ask them to put into their words what service you provided that was most valuable and helpful. I did this exercise and it surprised me what my clients said about me and my business. I knew I was a darn good marketing expert and writing coach, and my clients agreed.
But it turns out I am also a dynamite accountability and goal setting coach! That’s something new I can put in my marketing materials, and another service that makes me more valuable and better able to serve my customers. By getting to know my customers better, I can do better work for them, too, and they help me get to know myself better, too.
